As part of the Centre’s objectives to train drug regulators both at the National and Regional levels in current practices of Medicine Regulation, the Centre held an International Conference, first of its kind, in the University of Ibadan from the 2nd to 4th October 2013. The conference organized in conjunction with Reckitt Benckiser, UK was tagged ‘Medicine Regulation of Claims – From Concept to Launch”. Resource persons were drawn from both local and international Drug Regulators, Industrialists and persons in the Academia and participants included stakeholders in the Pharmaceutical sector, media men, consumers, trado-medical practitioners and the general public. The Director General (DG) of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), in person of Dr. Paul Orhii, gave the keynote address and also granted a 3-hour interactive session with the audience.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Centre and NAFDAC and a proposal written by the Centre to partner with NAFDAC on executing Bioavailability/Bioequivalence (BA/BE) studies was also received. It was adjudged by UK drug regulatory experts and the DG as being novel and historic since it was the first conference to witness drug regulators, pharma industries, consumers and academia under the same roof with the academia building the bridge between the parties present.
