Workshop on Bioinformatics and Computer-Aided Drug Design (CADD)
This workshop was organised from July 20-22, 2015 to strengthen the capacity of researchers in the design of drugs
The theme of the workshop ‘Bioinformatics and Computer-Aided Drug’ was most relevant in order to extract new knowledge and applications that generate diverse genomic or chemical data from currently available large research data. Applications of computer science to biological research in recent times has increased the demand for people with requisite and blended knowledge of statistics, computer science, molecular biology, mathematics, biochemistry to work together as a multidisciplinary team. The aim of the workshop was to increase the capabilities of participants in the use of computational methods to simulate drug-receptor interactions which will save time and money for drug discovery projects.
Several resource persons from within the University of Ibadan and outside gave outstanding presentations and lectures. Especially from outside the University and Nigeria were Professor Ikemefuna Uzochukwu (Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka), Dr. Olujide Olubiyi (Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti), and the Carnegie Fellow, Professor Adeboye Adejare (University of the Sciences, Philadelphia, USA), to University of Ibadan. About 40 people participated.
